Hexagonal Hand Quilting

I began making quilts for the first time last year - patchwork ones and ones with stripes. I've done them all on the machine so far. But I hadn't yet attempted hexagons and hand piecing over paper ... until this week.

Here's what I've been doing in front of the TV every evening this week - often serenaded by Mr Biddle on the piano or practicing songs.

I don't think I'll be making many hexagonal quilts in my time - it takes forever. Just for very special people. But it's very satisfying - I just need to work out how many more of these little hexagons I need to make a full sized quilt. Answers on a postcard!
